"The Boys" say,

Hello {!firstname_fix}

Well, Kitty friends, did you get a chance to be a part of the "Shabby Chic" event that was going around the Catblogosphere on Monday?

Somehow, we "missed the memo" and didn't learn about Shabby Chic until later in the day. But nevertheless, we had fun catching up around the blogs seeing what things our furriends were doing.  I did grab the banner and post a few words about how "The Boys" would get involved; I just didn't have any photos to share.

I hope you're having a fun weekend.

Yours in furriendship,

Karen and  "The Boys"

Days of Our Meows

It's All His

There was a time that when it came time to eat, Jonny was first in line.

Now, not so much...as he seems to prefer to "sleep in" or to "come fashionably late" to the party.

Or at least to the meal line.

This means that often a good share of the kitty meal has already been consumed and has been picked ove so that what's there doesn't seem too inviting to him as he's looking about for more.

But, when he does manage to make it on time to be fed, he'll go gung ho at his dinner, often times planting his left paw on the plate (to hold it down). He then stands half on the plate and half off, eating around his foot to get to the food.

Sometimes in his zealousness to eat, he'll drop some bits of the food onto the floor.

Taking Care of Kitty

What to Do About Your Cat's Bad Cat Breath

Cat owners know for a fact that bad cat breath can be downright awful. It isn’t too much different from bad human
breath, as both are caused by bacteria found in the mouth that breaks down protein and releases the sulfur compounds out into the air.

Sulfur smells rea
lly bad on its own, which is why breath containing it smells bad as well.

The bacterium that causes bad breath with cats is normally associated with a buildup of tartar around the teeth. Tartar is yellow in color, known as a coating of bacteria, food, and minerals.
To cure your cat from bad breath, you’ll need to remove the buildup of tartar.

There are several cat foods out there that are designed to reduce the buildup of tartar, many containing enzymes that will literally dissolve it.

You can also give your cat treats as well, as many of them will help eliminate and prevent tartar. If the buildup of tartar is bad, you may need to have your cat’s teeth professionally cleaned.

Once the tartar has been removed, the bad breath will go away. You may be able to clean the tartar off your cat’s teeth at home.  There are several toothpastes available for pets, in several different flavors. You’ll need to get a mechanical toothbrush, as the motion is very important for removing tartar buildup.

Toothpastes that contain enzymes will dissolve tartar, helping to cure bad breath. If you start with brushing your cat’s teeth early, you can virtually eliminate any type of tartar buildup that will ultimately lead to bad breath.

Some bacteria that lead to tartar can be found in your cat’s diet.  When you feed him, you should always make sure that the food he consumes doesn’t contain a lot of bacteria. If you shop healthy and feed him only healthy foods, it can help his bad breath a great deal.

When you give your pet a treat, make sure that the treat is designed to help with tartar. After your cat has finished eating, you can brush his teeth or rinse his mouth out. This way, you’ll get the bacteria out of his mouth before it has time to build up on his teeth.

Sometimes, cats may have a bad odor in their mouth that doesn’t come from tartar or bad breath in general. In these rare cases, it can be either liver or kidney disease.

If you notice bad breath and it isn’t tartar, you should take your cat to the vet. Even though it may be something to do with tartar, it’s better to be safe than sorry. Your veterinarian can pinpoint the problem, let you know what the cause is – and how you should go about fixing it.

It's Your Turn

Tillie and Georgia and Mom Nancy from Mickey the Black Cat

"The Boys" and I  love to "travel around the net", meeting new furrbies and their beans, seeing old furriends and look at all of the really neat kitty blogs. Then we tell our other furriends  who tell their furriends, and so on!

We had to bug Mom to help us and she finally got it done.

Hi! I'm Tillie and I am 7 years old. > > >

I have silky black furs with a few white hairs on my chest ans some on my belly, heehee.

I love to hang out with Mom, She calls me her Diva kitty, though I
am not sure why. Georgia says I'm spoiled.

I love to play and list
en for sounds of mice. I can hear them under the kitchen sink. We live just outside the city, so we see some wildlife outside our windows.

Hi! I'm Georgia < < <  and I am Tillie's sister and littermate. I am a Tortie and a polydactyl! I have extra toes on both my front and back fee
t.

I also love to play and get scritches from Mom.

We have 3 other kitties that live here, and we all get along quite well.

We all used to live with Miss P.

She passed away from cancer. Mom was helping to look after her and us. She liked us so much she became our Mom.

"The Boys" and I say that if all the above fun ^ ^ ^ isn't enough, take a click over to Mikey the Black Cat

 Who Meow Are

The McGreeveys

I'm Karen McGreevey, "keeper of the kids." "The Boys" at our house include:

Jonny Cat, II - named for Jonny Cat, who was in our "first
family," and for a sack of cat litter. I'll have to tell you that story one of these days.
Michael Anthony (Mikey or Mikki - depending upon whether I spell his name or Chuck, my husband, spells it). Mikey is named after an expensive line of jewelry--because he's "mighty fine"!
Daniel Boone - Although Daniel's no longer with us. We called him "Daniel" for short. And he and Mikey were "true brothers" as they were from the same litter.
Wild "Bill" Hickok - Who is really just "Billy".
Buffalo Bill "Cody" - Unfortunately, is also "gone". He left us way too young.
Jim "Bowie" - We call him "Bowie" (Booie), although as the "baby" he could easily be called the "brat" but that wouldn't be nice!
Chuck - The daddy of "The Boys", and husband of Karen.

All six were/are Purebred Persians, with baby doll faces. (Their faces are sprinkled throughout this ezine, on the left-side of each topic section.) They do not have the really smashed nose, which is a characteristic of some Persians.

Except Jonny;  he's close - "by a nose"!
