"The Boys" say,
Hello
What's
your week been like?
I hope you've managed to stay high and dry (as in no high-water
rflooding) and if you go outside - no snowstorms or snow drifts to get
lost in.
* * * * *
I don't know about any of you, but I just have the "funnest time"
visiting kitty blog after kitty blog, including the
blogs of the moms
and dads, and reading their thoughts and keeping track of what all the
kitties
are doing.
I've also noticed you're all so generous with your purrs and your hugs
and your
warm wishes when one of the kitties is celebrating a "gotcha day", a
birthday, or is not feeling up to kitty par.
"The Boys" and I are thrilled to say we're glad to be part of the kitty
community,
and we're glad you take a moment from your busy s-cat-ules to say
"hi" or to make some other comments at Kittens
'n Things.
Yours
in furriendship,
and
"The
Boys"

Days
of Our Meows
Jealousy Raises Its Ugly Head
I didn't mention it much, but Bowie was a bit "under the
weather" in the summer (he's had asthma since he was a baby - he's 12
now - and we learned this summer that he's got a mass in his tummy. An
inoperable one at that!"
So to help with the asthma that's
gotten a bit worse, we've been plying him with all kinds of medication
(or trying to, that is). And we give him lots of tender loving care.

Probably more than his fair share, it I think about it.
And it's beginning to show in how Bowie's brothers react to the way we
treat him.
For
instance, because Bowie needs medication, we have to somehow get it
down him! Last week, it was a snap. This week not so much!
We
also fix food for him that we pretty much know he will eat. Now,
sometimes that doesn't quite mesh with the palettes of the other three
at that time. It also means we have discovered it's best for us to feed
Bowie in a separate room where he can eat by himself...or we find a
location in the corner of a room where the others won't try to get his
food.
That's a pretty tall order some days.
Because
when Jonny, Billy and Mikey want to gather around to see what Bowie is
getting that they are not (doesn't even matter if it's a pill or a puff
of asthma inhaler), Bowie gets a little suspicisou and doesn't want to
eat. Then nBilly whines and Jonny wants to grab the plate and Mikey is
a bit "out of sorts" because we're not paying any attentoin to him! He
is, after all, in his universe, the center of ours!
The lady we got "The Boys" from told us that Persians are very lovable
(and they are), but at times they can be a bit jealous.
Amen!
They definitely vie for our attention. I suppose that could be in part
because there are, after all, four of them.

Taking
Care of Kitty
A Danger Lurks in the
Great Outdoors
On
the national newes a week or so ago, I saw where a kitty had managed to
get himself up one of those telephone poles or electric poles--you know
how they do--and then coudln't get down.

I
don't recall how long the kitty had been up there, but I think it may
have been for a day or so. It's owner tried unsuccessfully coax kitty
down, as did the neighbors and eventually a tree removal service.
The
tree wervice got out its bucket the tree trimmer rides up in to cut
branches from the tops of trees. And as the tree trimmer bucket slowly
inched upward toward the kitty, kitty either got scared or lost his
balance.
Or something.
Because the next thing you knew
from watching the video was the kitty jumped off the telephone pole to
the ground and, incredulously, "ran off!"
Thankfully, tne news
journalist did add that thekitty was caught shortly after that, was not
hur a bit in the jump/fall, and was returned safe and sound to its
owner!
When you think about it, there are so many things that
can play havoc with a kitty's well-being when it gets outside. Going up
poles like that and not being able to get down, is one of them.
Fortunately, this kitty's story has a good ending.
And I'm going to hug "The Boys" extra tight as I'm especially thankful
they are indoor kitties only.

What's
New Pussy Cat?
Thermo-Kitty
Bed
"The
Boys," our "Cat Seen
Investigators"
(CSI), like nosing around the Internet for really cool toys and all
kinds of stuff that might catch the eye of any discerning kitty.

This week, "The
Boys" found the yet another "thermal" product. This time, it's the Thermo-Kitty Bed at
Amazon.
They
thought you might be interested, too. While "The Boys" love getting any
bed they cfan find and sacking out on the sofas and soft chairs, too,
the "heat" feature is very appealing.
This heated kitty bed is especially soothing for "old, kitty bones" and
we've got a lot of those here at our home. What with all four kitties
being at least 12, and three are 13.
Amazon describes the "Thermo-Kitty Bed like so...
The UL-listed
K&H Thermo-Kitty bed keeps your pet feeling warm and secure
year-round. The affordable heated bed uses a 4-watt dual-thermostat
unit buried inside the thick, soft, orthopedic foam base to warm the
bed 10 to 15 degrees above air temperature to match your cat's normal
body temperature. Remove the cover for easy machine-washing. For indoor
use only.
"The Boys" love the thought of a
Thermo-Kitty Bed and give it
paws up!

We
Want You
Since "The Boys" and I have been "traveling around the web," looking at
all the really neat kitty blogs, we've decided we'd like to feature
other kitties, like you, in this section.
So, feel free to send us your kitty's story, his or her photo, and your
Website link to karen@kittensandmittensandthings.com.
We'll then feature you in this spot for our readers to
see.
Who
We Meow Are
The
McGreeveys
I'm Karen McGreevey,
"keeper of 'the kids.'" "The Boys" at our house include:
Jonny
Cat, II - named for Jonny Cat, who was in our "first
family", and for a sack of cat litter. He'll have to tell you the story
one of these days.
Michael
Anthony (Mikey or Mikki - depening upon whether I spell
his name or Chuck, my husband spells it). Mikey is named after an
expensive line of jewelry--because he's "mighty fine"!
Daniel
Boone - Although Daniel's no longer with us. We called him
"Daniel" for short. And he and Mikey were "true brothers" because they
were from the same litter.
Wild
"Bill" Hicock" - Who is really just "Billy"
Buffalo
Bill "Cody" - Unfortunately, is also "gone". He left us a
little too young.
Jim
"Bowie" - We cfall him "Bowie" (Booie), although as the
"baby" he could easily be called the "brat" but that wouldn't be nice!
Chuck
- Daddy of "The Boys," and husband of Karen.
All six were/are Purebred Persians, with babydoll faces. (Their faces
are sprinkled throughout this ezine, on the l left side of
each topic page.) They do not have the really smashed nose,
which is a characteristic of some Persians.
Except Jonny; he's close - "by a nose!"
