"Mews Nooz" with "The Boys" and Karen McGreevey
Published Weekly for Cats, Cat Lovers and More

Vol 2, Issue #8 Week 8 - February 26, 2011

"The Boys" say,

Hello,

It seems some of our furriends are not feeling well, others have gone to the "Rainbow Bridge" (way too soon), and still others have moms and dads that are not feeling up to snuff either...they're having surgery and the like.

So, for all of you, please know "The Boys" and I wish you well and a speedy recovery. And for those who've lost loved ones, we send special purryers and thoughts your way.

Anyone See that Old Ground Hog?

If so, tell him I'm lookin' for him!

After spending several hours shoveling the walks and the driveway this week and listening to the weather person say "snow" is on the way for this weekend, I want to have a talk with old Puxatony Phil!

The main thing for all of us with kitties that think they must go outside, we want to make sure we do what we can to keep them warm and dry once they come back in.

Yours in furriendship,

Karen and "The Boys"

Days of Our Meows

Jonny Come Lately

It used to be that when it was time to eat around here, Jonny would be first in line, and then he'd make sure he "spoke up the loudest" so he could get the mostest!

Now, not so much!

He sleeps through mealtime a lot.

But when he does finally mosey down to eat, he makes up for lost time--or food--as he goes around from plate to plate.

And to make doubly sure he gets every last morsel, Jonny will put one front paw on the plate to hold it down (we use paper plates), so it doesn't get away from him until he's ready to let it go!

Here he is in the dining room ^^^ - really waiting for a handout!! But see how he's not looking at front and center? That's because he's trying to fake you out. He doesn't want you to know what he really has in mind.

Luckily for us, though, Mikey is the only one of our four who will even try to get on the kitchen counter--although Billy and Mikey will both get on the dining room table if we aren't watching.

Well, actually, sometimes they will even if we are watching!

 Taking Care of Kitty

Is Your Cat a Burglar? Or a Klepto-cat?

Have you seen the story on the news and on the Internet about the kitty that is a bit of a burglar? Some even describe him as a "klepto-cat"!

Actually, it's quite funny--to hear the story--but then when you think about it and what all could happen because of his wanderlust, it becomes not so funny pretty fast.

Dusty, who appears to be a Siamese/Snowshoe, gives a whole new meaning to the term "bringing home the bacon", as seen in this video at Fox News Channel. (Using Google, numerous other, similar videos can be found around the Internet.)

Fox News learned of Dusty's wanderlust from the Animal Planet. The story goes th
at Dusty's owners eventually used a night vision camera (to track his where-abouts), which catches him "red-pawed" as the footage clearly shows him wandering about the neighborhood, then heading home with his loot!

This cat lives in California with his "human family", and over at least 3-1/2 years he's reported to have burgled close to 600 items. Which range from a bikini top to a bikini bottom (two separate nights), to a child's doll, shoes, cleaning sponges, 35 articles of clothing, a pink purse, to large (as in basketball) balls, a child's blanket, an alligator toy (shown in the photo >>> ), and the like that were eventually found in Dusty's owner's backyard.

In fairness to Dusty and to his "cat race", he has also been known to come home with a mouse or two--but that is not his "normal"!

While at first hearing of klepto kitty and seeing the video, it's funny to see and to comment about his night-wanderings. However, the story is a bit unsettling as well for several reasons:

1. Dusty/kitty goes out at night. His "parents" say in one of the videos that they rescued him from an animal shelter. And he was an indoor-outdoor cat; used to being outsde. So far so good....but,
2. Cats that go about their thing outside at all hours, can run the risk of physical harm from numerous things...neighbors that may not like a cat that takes off with personal belongings. Or neighbors or even strangers who do not like animals - period. So those very people may be intent on causing harm to kitties that are left outside, unsttended, to do what kitties do.
3. While Dusty has the good fortune to live in California, there are other areas of the country when kitties, if left outside, are more susceptible to Nature's elements; snow, sleet, ice in winter; rain, and heat in summer, spring and fall.
4. Garbage, trash, recyclables are often left by the wayside of ditches, residential streets, garbage cans - all of which may carry disease and sickness to a cat.
5. Kitties outside, unattended, are at the mercy of other (large or small) animals and birds, vehicles, as well. Not to mention grown ups (or kids who also carouse at all hours).

For his own safety and their peace of mind, Dusty's owners may just have to see whether they can retrain him to leave "his paws" off the neighbors' goods, especially since, by their account, some of the neighbors are not happy with Dusty and his nightly burgle runs.

 What's New Pussy Cat?

Molly Meow

"The Boys," our "Cat Seen Investigators" (CSI), like nosing around the Internet for really cool toys and all kinds of stuff that might catch the eye of any discerning kitty. This week, they are showing off "Molly Meow" for their kitty furriends, and if you're reading this, you're a "kitty furrriend!"

We found an email in our Inbox from Molly Meow, one day last spring, and featured Molly Meow at that time.

They make eco-friendly cat duvets and beds, and according to their marketing campaign, "Molly Meow is a line of durable yet easy to wash cat bed duvets and kits that just launched - a new approach to keeping textiles out of our landfills.

Molly Meow's revolutionary duvet and "stuff sack" make creating and maintaining a stylish, comfortable and clean pet bed easier - and much more environmentally-friendly and less costly - than ever before.

With Molly Meow products, cat owners can simply re-cover their pet's favorite bed with our stylish yet easy-to-wash duvets. Additionally, with our mesh stuff sack, Molly Meow made it as simple as filling the sacks with old clothes and bedding laying around the house.

Molly Meow duvets and stuff sacks are available in either a round or square bed and come with a matching "cat nip bag", a small zippered bag that matches the patterns of the duvet."

"The Boys" are really loving these duvets, enough so they want them on their birthday list. And, if you know some little "furball" who might find these duvets and beds of interest, feel free to send them here for a look!

"The Boys", are "thrilled" to give Molly Meow   paws up!

Note: I did feature Molly Meow early last year, and am doing so now because we've had new subscribers join us who may not be aware of this fun pillow.

 It's Your Turn

Cody and Caren at Cat Chat

"The Boys" and I "travel around the web," looking at
all of the really neat kitty blogs that we can feature here in "It's Your Turn." This week, we're featuring Cody at Cat Chat, one of our "kitty readers" and his mommy, Caren.

Caren recently shared her "Cody
gotcha" story...

"The day I adopted Cody I actually wanted to adopt his sister or his brother but not Cody (yes, I am ashamed that this is true!) Wasn't meant to be. His sister and brother didn't like me at all!

Cody is an incredibly friend
ly cat. He has to greet whomever enters our home and he always walks right up to them to be petted (or ideally given something to eat!)
Cody is also quite brave. When someone he doesn't know visits our home, his Sheltie-brother, Dakota, stands BEHIND Cody waiting for Cody's approval of said visitor.

Cody can eat his food in less than 30 SECONDS. (Not good!)
Cody is an incredibly good brother to Dakota. They play together and kiss each other every day.
Cody doesn't like to sleep with my husband and I at night (he is totally different than most cats in
that way). He prefers to sleep in the living room with Dakota.
Cody helped begin the healing of my aching heart after Bobo had crossed over the Rainbow Bridge. I adopted Cody two weeks after Bobo had passed. I couldn't bear to live without a cat, and I am convinced that Bobo sent my loving and cuddly Cody to me to help easy my pain.

 Who Meow Are

The McGreeveys

I'm Karen McGreevey, "keeper of the kids." "The Boys" at our house include:

Jonny Cat, II - named for Jonny Cat, who was in our "first family," and for a sack of cat litter. I'll have to tell you that story one of these days.
Michael Anthony (Mikey or Mikki - depending upon whether I spell his name or Chuck, my husband, spells it). Mikey is named after an expensive line of jewelry--because he's "mighty fine"!
Daniel Boone - Although Daniel's no longer with us. We called him "Daniel" for short. And he and Mikey were "true brothers" as they were from the same litter.
Wild "Bill" Hickok - Who is really just "Billy".
Buffalo Bill "Cody" - Unfortunately, is also "gone". He left us way too young.
Jim "Bowie" - We call him "Bowie" (Booie), although as the "baby" he could easily be called the "brat" but that wouldn't be nice!
Chuck - The daddy of "The Boys", and husband of Karen.

All six were/are Purebred Persians, with babydoll faces. (Their faces are sprinkled throughout this ezine, on the left-side of each topic section.) They do not have the really smashed nose, which is a characteristic of some Persians.

Except Jonny;  he's close - "by a nose"!
